Rock of Ages: Youth Edition

Tweens/Teens are you ready to rock this summer?!

From set design to curtain call, you’ll be involved in a production on our stage. Everyone is guaranteed a role! This unique summer camp starts with a workshop on the theatre audition process and ends with all campers in a production onstage. Over the two weeks campers will have a blast in blocking, dance, and music rehearsals as they get ready for the show. Look forward to workshops, masterclasses, Zoom calls, etc. with musical theatre professionals working in the business! Snacks will be provided throughout the camp day, but students are required to bring their own lunch.

Plot: Set on L.A.’s famous Sunset Strip in 1987, Rock of Ages tells the story of Drew, a city boy from South Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl, who have both travelled to L.A. to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. This classic love story is set against the troubles at the Dupree Room, a “legendary temple of rock ‘n’ roll excellence” under threat by developers of being torn down and replaced with a strip mall. The threats of closure bring legendary rocker Stacee Jaxx to town, and an opportunity for Drew to chase his dream to rock out with the best.

Trouble brews as Drew abandons Sherrie for his dream of stardom, rock ‘n’ roll bad boy Stacee lures Sherrie away, and the Dupree Room is surrendered to developers. Can Drew and Sherrie rescue their love? And can the Dupree Room be saved before it’s too late?

Rock of Ages: Youth Edition has been adapted by industry leaders iTheatrics. Specialists in adapting Broadway musicals for performance at elementary, middle and high school levels, iTheatrics has worked its familiar, school-friendly theatrical magic on Rock of Ages. The musical has been condensed to a 60-minute runtime, the book has been adjusted for appropriate content, and the rock anthems adapted for teen voices, making it a fun, easy and cool introduction to acting and singing. This squeaky-clean adaptation of the rockin’ Broadway musical is everything teachers, parents and kids love: a boy-meets-girl classic story set to an exciting and fun 80s rock soundtrack. What could be better?

Jordyn Jones Education Director Headshot

Jordyn Jones moved home to Lakeland, Florida in 2018 after living in Oklahoma City for four years, where she obtained a Masters of Music in Musical Theatre Performance at the University of Central Oklahoma and taught voice lessons and acting classes at the reputable Dance Unlimited/Spotlight Acting Academy from 2016-2018. While at UCO, she studied voice and vocal pedagogy under Dr. Barbara DeMaio, who encouraged her to explore her legit operatic range, as well as contemporary belt styles. In 2013, Jordyn graduated Cum Laude from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre. Jordyn’s love of musical theatre began in the 8th grade, when she was cast in the title role of her middle school’s first production, Cinderella. From then on, Jordyn has never been far from the stage. She has directed and choreographed productions in Oklahoma and at our very own, LCT. She is an adjunct voice teacher for Harrison School of the Arts and runs her own private voice studio. She is an advocate of good vocal health and loves helping students grow their love of performing.

Kayla Erickson is a communications director who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance. She is thrilled to return to teaching at LCT! Kayla not only has experience performing on stage but also as a director and playwright. With over a decade of experience working with children and students, she loves helping others grow in their creative talents through improv, story development, and character building.

Preston Pujol was born and raised in Lakeland, and has been involved with LCT since 2006 at age 12. He has been a performer, on tech crews, choreographer, and director for numerous camps, classes, for both Main Stage and Theatre for Youth. He received most of his initial dance training from Harrison School of the Arts in the musical theatre program under the instruction of Laurel Renfroe. After graduating in 2012 he spent several years working and pursuing theatre and music in New York. On returning to Florida, he worked as a character performer for Walt Disney World resort in the Halloween, Christmas, and Festival of Fantasy parades. He has also worked with Universal Studios as a Scare Actor for Halloween Horror Nights. Some on stage LCT credits include Elf: The Musical (Buddy), Rumors (Lenny) as Choreographer Disney’s Moana Jr., Descendants, and most recently The SpongeBob Musical. Preston also serves as a substitute teacher for Polk County schools. He looks forward to another fun and productive year of classes.

Frida Söderdahl is very excited to continue working with Lakeland’s talented young performers! Frida is a Florida Southern College alumna, holding a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance with a minor in Theatre Performance. Frida runs her own private voice studio from her home in the Lake Morton Historic District and is also an adjunct voice teacher at Harrison School for the Arts. At LCT, Frida serves as Music Director for the Theatre for Youth productions, the Out of The Box troupe, and summer camps. Outside of her pedagogical work, Frida also enjoys performing and can be seen on the LCT stage from time to time.
