SUMMARY:Proof
DESCRIPTION:May 14\, 15\, 2025 \nOn the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday\, Catherine\, a troubled young woman\, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father\, a famous mathematician. Now\, following his death\, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister\, Claire; and the attentions of Hal\, a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows\, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit? \nThis poignant drama about love and reconciliation unfolds on the back porch of a house settled in a suburban university town\, that is\, like David Auburn’s writing\, both simple and elegant. \nBy David Auburn

SUMMARY:Something Rotten!
DESCRIPTION:April 4\, 5\, 6 & 11\, 12\, 13\, 2025 \nTwo brothers set out to write the world’s first musical in this hilarious mash-up of sixteenth-century Shakespeare and twenty-first-century Broadway. \nWelcome to the Renaissance and the outrageous\, crowd-pleasing musical farce\, Something Rotten.  Created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick\, and successful screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell\, Something Rotten was lauded by audience members and critics alike\, receiving several Best Musical nominations and hailed by Time Out New York as “the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years”. \nSet in the 1590s\, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing\, dancing and acting at the same time\, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night\, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self\, and all that jazz. \n  \nBook by Karey Kirkpatrick\, John O’Farrell \nMusic and Lyrics by Karey Kirkpatrick\, Wayne Kirkpatrick

SUMMARY:Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
DESCRIPTION:March 19\, 20 2025 \nIt’s 2AM and George and Martha are just getting started. The middle-aged married couple\, a once-promising historian and his boss’s frustrated daughter\, welcome a younger professor and his wife for a nightcap—only to ensnare them in increasingly dangerous rounds of fun and games. An unblinking portrait of two American marriages\, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is Edward Albee’s explosively comedic and harrowingly profound masterpiece. \nBy Edward Albee

SUMMARY:Tootsie
DESCRIPTION:February 14\, 15\, 16 & 21\, 22\, 23 & February 28\, March 1\, 2\, 2025 \nBased on the story by Don McGuire and Larry Gelbart and the Columbia Pictures Motion Picture produced by Punch Productions and starring Dustin Hoffman. \nBased on the hit comedy film starring Dustin Hoffman and ranked as one of the best comedies of all-time on American Film Institute’s list of “100 Years…100 Laughs\,” Tootsie has had audiences rolling in the aisles in what was hailed as “Broadway’s funniest new musical!” (The New York Post). With music and lyrics by Tony Award-winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit\, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and a laugh-out-loud book by Tony Award-winner Robert Horn (13 the Musical\, Shucked)\, it comes as no surprise that Tootsie won Best Book of a Musical and received a staggering 11 Tony Award Nominations\, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. \nMichael Dorsey is a skilled actor with a talent for not keeping a job. Desperate and out-of-work\, Michael makes a last-ditch effort at making his dreams come true…by disguising himself as actress Dorothy Michaels. In a meteoric rise to Broadway stardom\, Michael (disguised as Dorothy) soon has audiences enamored while falling for his co-star\, Julie. It isn’t long before Michael realizes that maintaining his greatest acting success is going to be much harder than he expected. \n  \nMusic and Lyrics by David Yazbek \nBook by Robert Horn

SUMMARY:The Light in the Piazza
DESCRIPTION:January 17\, 18\, 19 & 24\, 25\, 26\, 2025 \nThis lush\, sophisticated\, romantic musical about a mother and daughter touring the Tuscan countryside enthralled audiences and earned six Tony Awards\, including Best Original Score. \nMargaret Johnson\, the wife of an American businessman\, is touring the Tuscan countryside with her daughter\, Clara. While sightseeing\, Clara – a beautiful\, surprisingly childish young woman – loses her hat in a sudden gust. As if guided by an unseen hand\, the hat lands at the feet of Fabrizio Naccarelli\, a handsome Florentine\, who returns it to Clara. This brief episode\, charged with coincidence and fate\, sparks an immediate and intense romance between Clara and Fabrizio. Margaret\, extremely protective of her daughter\, attempts to keep Clara and Fabrizio apart. But as events unfold\, a secret is revealed: in addition to the cultural differences between the young lovers\, Clara is not quite all that she appears. Unable to suppress the truth about her daughter\, Margaret is forced to reconsider not only Clara’s future\, but her own hopes as well. \n  \nBook by Craig Lucas \nMusic and Lyrics by Adam Guettel

SUMMARY:November
DESCRIPTION:October 16\, 17\, 2024 \nDavid Mamet’s Oval Office satire depicts one day in the life of a beleaguered American commander-in-chief. It’s November in a Presidential election year\, and incumbent Charles Smith’s chances for reelection are looking grim. Approval ratings are down\, his money’s running out\, and nuclear war might be imminent. Though his staff has thrown in the towel and his wife has begun to prepare for her post-White House life\, Chuck isn’t ready to give up just yet. Amidst the biggest fight of his political career\, the President has to find time to pardon a couple of turkeys — saving them from the slaughter before Thanksgiving — and this simple PR event inspires Smith to risk it all in attempt to win back public support. With Mamet’s characteristic no-holds-barred style\, November is a scathingly hilarious take on the state of America today and the lengths to which people will go to win. \nBy David Mamet

SUMMARY:Our American Cousin
DESCRIPTION:March 20 & 21\, 2024 \nThe last play President Lincoln ever attended. Our American Cousin is a farcical comedy whose plot is based on the introduction of an awkward\, boorish American to his aristocratic English relatives. Asa Trenchard has come to Trenchard Manor to stake claim to land which has been bequeathed to him by Squire Mark Trenchard…until he meets the lovely Mary Meredith (Mark Trenchard’s granddaughter)\, and he makes a big decision that affects his life and hers. Many other “quirky” characters come into play during his visit.  Although the 1858 play achieved great renown during its first few years and remained very popular throughout the second half of the 19th century\, Our American Cousin is best remembered as the play Abraham Lincoln was attending at Ford’s Theatre when he was assassinated by actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth on April 14\, 1865 \nBy Tom Taylor

SUMMARY:Big: The Musical
DESCRIPTION:February 16\, 17\, 18 & 23\, 24\, 25 & March 1\, 2\, 3\, 2024 \nThe classic 1987 motion picture fantasy bursts onto the stage in the unforgettable theatrical experience\, Big The Musical. Featuring a witty\, moving and insightful book by John Weidman (Assassins; Pacific Overtures; Road Show) and a dazzling\, energetic\, heartfelt\, contemporary score by David Shire and Richard Maltby\, Jr. (Baby; Closer than Ever; Starting Here\, Starting Now) Big is a perfect show for audiences of all ages! \nJosh Baskin is sick of being an awkward kid.
